how can you tell the sex of a red eared slider.?

I have a small red eared slider, and am thinking about getting one more., should I get the same sex or opposite sex and how do I tell the defference.

with turtles, there are ways u can sex them.

1. males ahve longer nails
2. males have longer tails
3. males have a concaved (goes inwards) plastron (bottom of shell) so they can mount ontop of the female
although in practice, as with any other reptile, its hard!!

another techniqe is probing or temperature. females have lower temperatures than males.

probing should be left to the expereinced. probing is basically when a probe (sort of a steel stick) is put inside the cloaca and if it goes far its a female, if it doesnt, its a male
